Bomb Squad responds to plastic bottle explosion at Mattel headquarters
The L.A. County Sheriffs bomb squad was called to Mattel’s El Segundo headquarters Tuesday after a plastic bottle exploded, Manhattan Beach Patch reports.
A security guard at the company’s design studio heard what sounded like multiple explosions around 7 a.m., according to El Segundo police, and authorities found a plastic bottle that had exploded when they arrived, KTLA reports.
Employees were evacuated as the facility was inspected, but nothing else was found; police say they believe it was a prank, according to KTLA.
El Segundo Police Department Capt. Bob Turnbull described the explosion as “more of a sound explosion,” according to Patch, and also said that there was no damage to the structure.
