91 Freeway to close nightly for construction this week

If you must take the 91 Freeway through Riverside County for any late-night or early-morning travel this week, be prepared for some delays.
Each night this week, all lanes in at least one direction will be shut down at Maple Street as part of the 91 Project, an effort to widen the freeway and introduce new tolled express lanes. The goal is to reduce congestion on the heavily-trafficked stretch of highway that connects Los Angeles to the Inland Empire and beyond.
The eastbound lanes will be closed from Monday to Thursday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
To get around the closure, transportation officials have suggested you exit Maple Street and re-enter the 91 at Paseo Grande or follow Sixth Street all the way to El Sobrante Road and then head south to Magnolia.
The Westbound 91 closures will vary each night:
- Wednesday and Thursday: 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
- Friday: 11:59 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- Saturday: 11:59 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
For that detour, you can exit Maple Street and then head north to Pomona Road, following it west to Serfas Club Drive, where you can get back on the 91.
For eastbound travelers, things are a little more complicated. The Riverside County Transportation Commission, which is overseeing the 91 Project, has said nightly closures of the 91 at Interstate 15 will continue through August.
