2 shot, injured in Duarte after brief pursuit by LA sheriff's deputies
Two men were shot and injured by L.A. County sheriff's deputies after a short chase in Duarte early Sunday morning. One of the suspects had allegedly brandished a gun at officers after crashing, L.A. sheriff's officials said.
Sheriff's detectives say they spotted a man holding a gun at Ivory and Galen streets around 1:20 a.m. Sunday morning, L.A. County Sheriff's spokeswoman Carmen Arballo said. The suspect entered a vehicle and the detectives pursued them for about 30 seconds, before they crashed.
"It ended when the vehicle collided with the curb at the 2400 block of El Toro Road," Arballo said. "One of the two suspects brandished a firearm which resulted in a deputy-involved shooting."
Both suspects were injured. Sheriff's officials did not know the extent of their injuries. The two men were 24-year-old and 36-years old. They say they found a firearm at the scene that they believe to belong to one of the suspects.
Sunday morning's shooting follows two others that took place last week in the small city. Sheriff's officials said they're not sure if Sunday's incident is related to last week's shootings. They're continuing to investigate, Arbello said.
