Two men were killed and two more people were wounded in a shooting in Pasadena late Friday evening that began at a vigil for the victim of a previous homicide, police said.

Pasadena police and paramedics responded to a report of gunfire at a vigil in the 100 block of West Claremont Street at about 11:53 p.m., Pasadena Police Lt. Mark Goodman told KPCC. The vigil was being held in honor of a person who was killed on Dec. 22, 2016 in Pasadena, he said.

"Unknown suspects shot into the group gathered for the vigil," Goodman said. A total of four people were shot and one victim, a 24-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 37-year-old female gunshot victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Two additional victims were driven to the hospital by others attending the vigil. That vehicle was involved in a collision at California Boulevard and St. John Avenue. When emergency personnel responded to that incident, a second 24-year-old male gunshot victim was pronounced dead at the scene and another victim, a 25-year-old Pasadena man, was transported to the hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. He was in stable condition as of Saturday morning.

The driver of the vehicle and two other passengers were also admitted to the hospital after suffering injuries from the collision.

The identities of the victims are being withheld until their relatives can be notified. Goodman said that "the possibility exists" that the shooting was gang related but that has not been confirmed.
