2 Freeway closed in both directions after fire in Silver Lake

Nearly 200 firefighters and several helicopters managed to contain an eight-acre fire that broke out early Sunday afternoon in Silver Lake.
The blaze began around 1 p.m. as a structure fire in the 2200 block of Allesandro Way in Silver Lake, southwest of where the 2 and 5 freeways intersect.
"When we arrived we had two outbuildings, possibly sheds, that were involved in fire and the adjacent brush was burning and began to quickly expose homes," says Erik Scott, spokesperson for the L.A. City Fire Department. "This is a residential area with multiple green belts and some canyon areas that were burning."
Firefighters faced additional challenges because power poles had burned in the area, requiring extra precautions.
Approximately 20 homes homes were threatened on Corralitas Dr., Lake View Ave., and Silver Ridge Ave. but none burned. Two homes suffered damage and at least 3 out buildings, they ,ay have been sheds, were destroyed, all on Lake View Ave.
By 2 p.m., the fire had been extinguished. Firefighters will remain in the area to mop up hot spots.

Spot fires erupted on both sides of the 2 Freeway, which was shut down in both directions. As of 3 p.m. Sunday it remains closed. Check with CHP or CalTrans for the latest updates on the freeway reopening.
