Topline:
Huntington Beach has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to outsource the management of “all aspects of the day-to-day operations” of its public library system “under the City’s direction.” The RFP was issued last Thursday with contractors given a timeline of one week to apply.
Criteria for selection: A company will be chosen based on “costs, experiences, references, and other qualifications deemed appropriate by the city” with the city council set to make a decision on June 18.
Who has submitted a bid: EveryLibrary, a nonprofit organization, and Library Systems & Services (LS&S) who had approached the city of Huntington Beach previously with a proposal to run the city’s four-branch library system, have both submitted bids. To track bids, visit Planet Bids.
What do the stakeholders say: Huntington Beach voters surveyed largely oppose the move as do some employees of the public library system.
