Topline:

If you plan on heading to the beach anytime soon, watch out for the water in a dozen SoCal locations, from San Pedro to Santa Monica.

Why it matters: The bacteria levels have exceeded health standards when last tested and could cause you to get sick, according to the L.A. County Department of Public Health. People are being warned to steer clear of the ocean in these areas, including swimming, surfing, or playing in the water.

Which beaches:

  • Las Flores Creek at Las Flores State Beach, the entire swim area
  • Walnut Creek at Paradise Cove, the entire swim area
  • Solstice Creek at Dan Blocker County Beach, the entire swim area
  • Marie Canyon Storm Drain at Puerco Beach, 100 yards up and down the coast from the public access steps
  • Ramirez Creek at Paradise Cove, 100 yards up and down the coast from the Paradise Cove Pier
  • Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro, the entire swim area
  • Escondido Creek at Escondido State Beach, the entire swim area
  • Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu, 100 yards up and down the coast from the lagoon
  • Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, 100 yards up and down the coast from the pier
  • Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey, the entire swim area.
  • Redondo Beach Pier in Redondo Beach, 100 yards up and down the coast from the pier
  • Pico-Kenter storm drain at Santa Monica Beach. Santa Monica South Tower 20, 100 yards up and down the coast from the storm drain

The good news: But you can enjoy the ocean again around the Montana Avenue storm drain at Santa Monica Beach, Santa Monica North Tower 8. The water quality levels are back within health standards and the warning has been lifted as of Thursday.
