More LA spots to try
  • Vegans who love sweet, chilly treats, have you KindKreme's Brownie Sundae? The animal-free concoction has just been been named by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) as the best vegan frozen dessert in America.
  • This might come as no surprise, but Los Angeles has among the most expensive cocktails in the country, according to KCBS. The info comes to us officially from TripAdvisor, which claims that the average price of a classic cocktail in our fair city is $18.
  • With summer in full swing, it's time to get yourself some ripe, juicy sun-sweetened melons while they're ripe and delicious. Muskmelons are part of the larger family of gourds and squash, including popular varieties such as cantaloupe and honeydew. Muskmelons are said to have origins in Iran and Armenia, with some varieties evolving in India, Africa and Afghanistan.
  • Arriving soon at Los Angeles International Airport's Terminal 4: A Gourmet Food Truck. Yep, you read that right. Capitalizing on a trend that may have peaked in late 2009, HMS Host is planning to include a food truck "parked" inside the terminal's "Gourmet Food Court" that is slated to open in summer 2012.
  • The tagline for the release covering the 2011 Xtreme Eating "awards" list is the very un-ironic phrase "Big eats...big Americans." The annual report put out by the Center for Science in the Public Interest points out a few of the nation's biggest gut buster menu items available around the country from some familiar restaurants. So if you're looking to pack on the pounds (or don't mind a big time gross out) take note of these enormous edibles.
  • If you're a cocktail geek, chances are you've heard of the annual Tales of the Cocktail event in New Orleans and even plan your social calendar around it. Tonight through Sunday, when you visit your usual watering hole and wonder where your fave bartender is, he/she is most likely in NOLA.
