More LA spots to try
  • Quinn and Karen Hatfield, the husband and wife chef duo behind the popular Hatfield's restaurant, have announced they are prepping to open a second eatery, The Sycamore Kitchen, early next year in a remodeled former print shop. The casual restaurant is being pitched as a "hip, neighborhood haven for seasonally-focused fare and sweet and savory rustic pastries."
  • Barflies, boozehounds, and all-around cocktailing know-it-alls, Table 20's 2nd Annual L.A.'s Best Bartender Contest is open for nominations, and you can win, too, just for naming your favorite guy or gal behind the stick.
  • We wish we could offer you 44 lines about 88-cent burgers, but there isn't much to say here. If you like cheap burgers sold for cheaper than usual, you may want to hie thee to your nearest (participating) Burger King, where their Whoppers are a mere 88 cents today from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on this August 8th.
  • Vegans and vegetarians, and their veg-curious and veg-loving carnivore friends, will have a new upscale dining destination to call their own in West Los Angeles. Venice's Seed Kitchen's chef and owner, Eric Lechasseur, will soon open Seed Bistro, where he aims to provide diners with a high-end fine dining experience serving vegan and macrobiotic fare.
  • Your afternoon snack has just found its raison d'etre: Today is National Chocolate Chip Day, and the way the cookie crumbles around here is, well...we're talking chocolate chip cookies. Sweeeeeet, right?
  • Time to get your appetites for Korean BBQ fired up, as this Saturday, August 6, is the day for the 3rd Annual Korean BBQ Cook-off in Koreatown. Several of the city's best restaurants and food trucks will be on hand serving up their KBBQ dishes for attendees who can buy the different plates of grub priced from $5-$15.
