San Francisco's Smitten Ice Cream Brings Their Frozen Treats To L.A.

Beloved San Francisco mini-chain Smitten Ice Cream is finally bringing their delicious and creamy, flash-frozen scoops to Los Angeles this week.
Smitten will open their first location outside of the Bay Area tomorrow at The Point shopping plaza in El Segundo. The new SoCal shop will also pave the way for when they open another store in Silver Lake sometime next summer.
Blending old school charm with new school techniques, Smitten's signature ice creams include classics like Fresh Mint Chip and Vanilla to creative mixes like Cookie Dough with Pretzels and Chocolate Chips or Earl Grey with Milk Chocolate Chips. The menu will also feature chef-inspired seasonal specials like Maple Brown Sugar Pumpkin and Blood Orange with Pistachio Cookies. Owner Robyn Sue Fisher developed her own patented liquid nitrogen-enabled ice cream machine, which enable Smitten to flash freeze made-to-order batches of ice cream with fresh, organic ingredients right before your eyes. LAist had a chance to sample some of the ice creams they offer as part of a media preview, and we can say, you're in for a treat.
You can get your scoops topped with a wide variety of ingredients as well, including all natural rainbow sprinkles, oatmeal cookie crumble, cookie dough, organic whipped cream or Berkley-based artisanal TCHO chocolate sauce. They also offer several fully-loaded sundaes and vegan pops.
Smitten Ice Cream was started in 2009 by Fisher, who first started selling the ice cream out of a red Radio Flyer wagon at farmer's markets and food truck meet-ups where her ice creams quickly grew in popularity. With five shops and another on the way in the Bay Area, the new one in El Segundo and the Silver Lake one opening soon, they've made some serious progress in a short time.
As part of the grand SoCal opening, they'll be offering a "Share the Joy" special from Wednesday to Saturday this week. Anyone who comes in to the new shop with a friend gets one ice cream on the house when they purchase one small ice cream. They'll also be hosting a small pop-up on the Manhattan Beach Pier on Saturday, December 19 from noon to 2 p.m.
Smitten Ice Cream at The Point is located at 850 S. Sepulveda Blvd. in El Segundo, (424) 220-7100
As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
