Our June member drive is live: protect this resource!
Right now, we need your help during our short June member drive to keep the local news you read here every day going. This has been a challenging year, but with your help, we can get one step closer to closing our budget gap. Today, put a dollar value on the trustworthy reporting you rely on all year long. We can't hold those in power accountable and uplift voices from the community without your partnership.

Here at LAist, we love our local farmers' markets. Now we're taking the opportunity to shop local and participate in the Whole 30 challenge. Can we (and you, should you choose to try) eat nothing but whole foods for 30 days?

No processed or packaged foods, no grains, no sugar, no alcohol, no energy bars or drinks, no processed meats (sorry, Slim Jim. We'll have to break up for now). Only whole natural foods can make the cut, and and Angelenos should add "local" to that list, since we live in an area where just about anything will grow.

This means that we'll be doing the vast majority of our shopping at our city's many bountiful farmers' markets for fresh local produce and meat. Plus, check out a few of the local markets we've gotten to know.

To read how one local pro in the health biz is handling the Whole 30, one of our favorite trainers,Jenna Phillips, is starting her challenge today, and you can read about it on her blog.
