Goodies for a Good Cause: Eat My Blog is Today

Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your year-end tax-deductible gift now.

Today is the Eat My Blog 2010 Summer Bakesale, and it's happening now until 4 p.m. Get there while the getting is good to score homemade cookies, cupcakes, confections, concoctions and more to satisfy your sweet (and a little savory) tooth. We were there early to drop off our contribution, and to put together a pink box of tasty treats from some of our favorite bloggers and food pros in Los Angeles.

As organizer Cathy Danh of Gastronomy explained earlier this week, 100% of the sales will be turned over to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, a cause that unites food lovers with a cause that makes sure everyone has food: "We're a group of people who make eating well a priority, so it makes sense that we'd want to extend that privilege to everyone in our city. Too many people go hungry everyday. This is our way of making sure that fewer people are food insufficient."

Eat My Blog is set up on the patio of Tender Greens in West Hollywood [map] today until 4.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive before year-end will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
