Now in its "2nd 8th Annual" (aka 9th) year, the ooey, gooey, cheesy good fun that is the Grilled Cheese Invitational is happening on April 23rd, and tickets went on sale today at $12 a pop. "The event has expanded include more space, more vendors, more free samples, more entertainment and what is expected to be a combined grand total of over 30,000 grilled cheese sandwiches available for your eating pleasure," boasts organizers.

Squid Ink breaks down the changes to the categories, including the addition of a fourth category devoted to the grilled cheese purists. That category, Love, American Style is "dedicated to the classic grilled cheese sandwich, made with nothing but white bread, orange cheese and butter." Switching things up, the "Missionary category will now allow sandwiches made with any type of bread, butter and cheese (but no other ingredients)," while Kama Sutra remains a gastronomorgasmic free-for-all, and Honey Pot is strictly dessert.

There will be more freebies for attendees this year, says the GCI folks: "Each attendee will get a sheet of coupons that can be handed in to the free sample sponsors for your taste of: Tillamook Grilled Cheese, Boulder Canyon Potato Chips, Izze Sparking Beverages, Kruegermann Pickles and more." If you want to have your say as to who wins, you need to pre-register as a Judge and pay an extra $5.
