Chew On This: Beer Camp Dinner, Burger Lounge, 12 Days of Tacos & More

What's going on lately in the L.A food scene? Chew on this:

12 Days of Tacos @Komida
Usher in the 12 days of Christmas with 12 days of special tacos at Komida. Each day the taco-centric restaurant is open from Thursday, December 8 to Friday, December 23, you'll find a new specialty holiday taco on the menu for $4. We're most intrigued by Roast Turkey with Pinot Noir/five-spice cranberry sauce (12/8), Smoked Gouda Mac and Cheese with buttered bacon breadcrumbs (12/16), and Pastrami and sauerkraut with Asian 1000 island and rye seed tortillas (12/23). They aren't all savory, though! Dessert taco options will include 'Fruit Cake' with Figgy Pudding Sauce (12/21) and Gingerbread cookie with yuzu icing (12/22).

Marcel Vigneron's Kaiseki Pop-Up Dinners
Former Top Cheftestant Marcel Vigneron is popping up Sunday and Monday for a pair of dinners at Gonpachi. The prix-fixe meal is sure to be full of Vigneron's imaginative dishes.
Sunday, Dec 11th & Monday, Dec 12th; Both Evening follow the same format: 7:30pm Reception & 8:00pm Dinner. Tamal Demo @Playa
Get into the holiday spirit at Playa, when Chef de Cuisine Kevin Luzande will share some tips and tricks for making the perfect tamales. Learn how to build and cook a tamale, as well as create a variety of fillings. The demo is free to brunch diners, Saturday December 10 at 11 am. Haven Gastropub + Brewery Opening Next Week in Old Pasadena
The second location of Haven opens Thursday, December 15th in Old Pasadena. Diners will be able to order up from their menu of seasonal comfort food, plus beers from their on-site brewery and more. The restaurant also features pre-prohibition cocktails and a curated global wine and beer list to complement the food and the Haven philosophy of supporting craft businesses. How much beer? How about a100 bottle beer list and 52 taps of craft beer, four of the Brewery’s own special beers, and four cask ales.

Burger Lounge Opening in WeHo
San Diego-based Burger Lounge is venturing north into L.A. County with a West Hollywood location in the vacated Jinky's space opening mid-month, and a Beverly Hills location slated for early next year. The chain is focused on ecologically-savvy business practices and, of course, burgers. Lunch and Brunch @Mohawk Bend
Echo Park's Mohawk Bend has extended their hours, opening at 12 noon Monday-Friday for lunch, and 9:30 AM on Saturday and Sunday for brunch. The lunch menu is a condensed version of their regular dinner selection (flatbreads, burgers, pizzas and salads), and brunch features vegan and non vegan items, including what we're told is a phenom spicy Bloody Mary created by bar manager Keith Taylor, with a house-made mix helped with a strong kick from Hangar 1 Chipotle Vodka.

Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Dinner @ Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Downtown Long Beach
Beachwood BBQ & Brewing is teaming up with Sierra Nevada Brewing to host a six course beer-paired dinner on Wednesday, December 14. Chef/Owner, Gabriel Gordon’s menu will include items like an appetizer of Foraged Sautéed Wild Chanterelles with Wild greens and Herbs on dumplings paired with a Sierra Nevada Almond Martzen and an entree of Buffalo Loin, Spruce, & roasted garlic demi with smashed potato paired with Sierra Nevada Juniper Black Ale. Look out for course four: Cheese Wiz 3 ways! No reservations required, first come, first served - Starts @ 6pm. Cost is $45/guest.

New Food & Drink Menus at The Hudson
Sure, the New Year is a few weeks away, but The Hudson in West Hollywood has already refreshed their dinner and cocktail menus as of today. Look for new items like a Winter Risotto with butternut squash and wild mushrooms, Cioppino (market fish of the day, calamari, black mussels, Manilla clams, white wine marinara broth, garlic crostini) and a Gorgonzola burger (house ground beef, gorgonzola, balsamic grilled onion, red wine dijon reduction, arugula) to fill you up and cocktails like the Satellite, which is Hudson’s own bosc pear infused rye whiskey, cocchi di torino vermouth, original laird’s apple brandy, and burdock and dandelion bitters.
