Portland's Blue Star Will Be Handing Out Free Donuts For Venice Opening

A famed Portland donut shop is bringing their creative brioche-style donuts to Venice next week and they'll be handing out free donuts.
Blue Star Donuts has earned quite a following in the Pacific Northwest, and they'll bring their delicious treats to L.A. donut lovers when they open up their first SoCal spot on Abbot Kinney. With their creative flavor combinations, top-shelf ingredients, and an 18-hour process to create their signature brioche-style dough, these donut pros are likely to bump up the bar for quality donuts in Los Angeles.
In addition to their renowned donut flavors like blueberry bourbon basil, Cointreau creme brulee and their horchata-inspired O.G. (Orxata Glaze), Blue Star will also introduce plenty of L.A.-specific specialties. The first of the L.A. donuts include a piña colada donut featuring a pineapple, coconut, rum and mint-flavored cake donut topped with shredded coconut, as well as a brunch-inspired Greek yogurt honey granola donut. Future California-inspired options are expected to include strawberry shortcake, wine-country grenache ganache, and mimosa, which features a sparkling wine-infused, orange-scented glaze.
"When we started Blue Star, the goal was to do things differently," Owner Micah Camden, who spearheads the culinary direction, said in a statement. "We wanted to offer a donut that stands out because of the quality and complexity of the ingredients, and doesn't kill your palate with sweetness." Camden founded Blue Star with Katie Poppe in 2012.

The shop will also serve Stumptown Roasters coffee and cold brew because, well, donuts and coffee.
The bright, white-tiled 1,000 square-foot space of the Venice Blue Star Donuts will officially open to the public on Wednesday, October 21, but they'll be handing out free donuts to customers on Monday, October 19.
Blue Star Donuts is located at 1142 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Venice, CA, 90291; (310) 450-5630
