Hog Wild: Bringing on the Bacon-Wrapped Hot Dogs

To many, the marriage of bacon and hot dogs is one of the most glorious matings of pork (or beef) products known to food-kind. In celebration of the heavenly, artery-clogging match, every so often a Yelper organizes an event dedicated to the consumption of the bacon-wrapped hot dog, and there is one such event coming up on Saturday May 22.

To get your mouths watering, however, LAist Featured Photos contributor and food blogger foodforfel just shared with us her photos and write up of the March bacon-bedecked bonanza.

Inspired by Dogzilla, one of the vendors who was at February's Street Food Fest, the host brought along a gaggle of Asian-inspired ingredients to pair with the hot dogs: "yakisoba noodles, nori flakes, avocados and wasabi mayo," and "French baguettes and pickled vegetables for a 'bun mi' and kimchi pickled radishes for a Korean dog." With so much on hand, it's easy to go hog wild and concoct your own hot dog creation!

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
