Mayor Bass lifts downtown LA curfew put in place to quell protest violence

Mayor Karen Bass has lifted the curfew for downtown Los Angeles, seven days after it was imposed in response to the violence and vandalism that broke out after demonstrations to protest immigration enforcement sweeps. The move comes one day after Bass shortened the overnight curfew by two hours.
Where was it? The curfew had extended east to west from the 5 Freeway to the 110 Freeway; and from north to south from the 10 Freeway to where the 110 and 5 freeways merge.
Curfew effects: While officials said the curfew was effective in curbing violence and vandalism, it's been a challenge for bars and restaurants, which have had to reduce hours. Savannah Parsons, shift leader at Yuko's Kitchen, told LAist that "moving forward, I'm sure we'll be opening till regular hours again."
What's new? In announcing the change, Bass said in a statement that the curfew has been "largely successful in protecting stores, restaurants, businesses and residential communities from bad actors who do not care about the immigrant community.”
