Weekend Movie Guide: A Loser Weekend

One year ago, Congress defunded public media. Now that we're 100% community funded, please become a sustaining member or increase your existing membership today.

I'm not particularly looking forward to seeing The A-Team -- err, I mean, The Losers this weekend, but it may be the best of a bad bunch. Oceans obviously looks amazingly cool, but I'm not completely on board with it's pro- to neutral position on sharks (aka, the serial killers of the sea). Subtitles will scare away many, but the brave will be rewarded by No One Knows About Persian Cats if they dare to see it (LAist review here).

After years of stealing from Asian cinema, it's nice to see that they occasionally steal from us, too (e.g. The Good, the Bad, the Weird). In My Sleep has promise in its premise, but it totally fails to deliver on it. The Back-up Plan looks cynical and evil. Avoid at all costs. You -- yes YOU -- can help stop Jennifer Lopez today! Are you planning to see Kenny Chesney: Summer in 3D? If so, we probably aren't very close.

Kenny Chesney: Summer in 3D

One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our nonprofit newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our communities. We are free to follow facts wherever they lead and to hold power to account without fear or favor. Our only loyalty is to our readers and listeners and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen Southern California’s communities.
