TV Junkie: Must-Watch 'Green Room w/Paul Provenza' & Letterman Tonight

Do not miss tonight's "Green Room" episode - it will be historic and we were there!
Before you
Dear reader, we're asking you to help us keep local news available for all. Your tax-deductible financial support keeps our stories free to read, instead of hidden behind paywalls. We believe when reliable local reporting is widely available, the entire community benefits. Thank you for investing in your neighborhood.

You've got to check out tonight's history-making episode of "The Green Room With Paul Provenza" on Showtime (at 8pm and other times) with it's amazing lineup of Bill Burr, Russell Peters, Colin Quinn, Caroline Rhea, and Lizz Winstead. First of all, you'll see my bearded face right behind Bill Burr and Russell Peters as I was fortunate enough to be at the taping which was done at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal in late July. Secondly, the iconic entity known as Tony Clifton was an invited audience guest (along with our friend Greg Proops). The taping took almost an hour and a half and it will somehow be cut down to 20-something minutes, which is a shame. During the taping Clifton continued to issue epithets, which were entirely on-topic if not completely offensive, until he was manhandled to the ground and physically thrown out of the theatre by security. I hope to god they keep the context of what Clifton was saying intact so that the proceedings make sense. Bill Burr held his own in a confrontation with Clifton as well as making excellent points in an argument from Lizz Winstead. People will be talking about this episode for a long time! Also, Bill Burr will be appearing tonight for the 6th time on "Late Show With David Letterman" - do not miss it!
The Discovery channel is getting ahead of the September 11th remembrance game by unveiling a three hour documentary, "Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero," commercial-free tonight, starting at 8:00pm.
Be sure to check out the excellent short documentary "Old People Driving" which will be part of tonight's "PBS NewsHour" broadcast. "Old People Driving" chronicles the realities of aging by examining the controversy over allowing aging drivers to hold licenses. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that more senior drivers are on the road for more miles than in the past and that 37 million Americans will be age 65 or older by the year 2020 and at least 90 percent of them will be licensed to drive.
The very lovely Heather Graham will return to TV to star opposite Rob Corddry in a new Fox comedy pilot called "Little In Common." The series focuses on Corddry and Graham who move from California to Texas to find themselves having to make huge adjustments to get along (or not) with their neighbors. It looks like the show will appear mid-season adjacent to Fox's excellent "Raising Hope," one of our favorites.
I was elated to read that the committee that manages the Hollywood Walk of Fame has banned reality TV subjects from receiving the honor of a star. Now let's get them off of TV.
