TV Junkie: 'Game of Thrones' & 'The Killing' Finales; TV Podcast Options
It's a weekend without much new TV, particularly on Saturday, so we recommend you load up with some podcasts. Of course you'll want to hear our Channel Zero podcast with "Men of a Certain Age" co-creator Mike Royce, but also check out Marc Maron's WTFpod with Amy Poehler (also read our profile of and interview with Marc Maron), Greg Fitzsimmon's FitzDogRadio with guest Rob Corddry of "Childrens Hospital,", our friend Greg Proops just posted the most recent edition of "The Smartest Man In the World," and the Long Shot Podcast with guest Seth Morris of "Funny or Die" and "Childrens Hospital." We also urge you to go check out the Long Shot Podcast Live show this Sunday at 6pm at the UCB Theater - it's only $5!
So we can't ignore that TNT's superhyped new science fiction series, "Falling Skies," premieres on Sunday at 9pm but there's no way that I'm going to let that premiere interfere with watching the season finales of HBO's "Game of Thrones" and AMC's "The Killing." TNT will be rebroadcasting the premiere, you will have a chance to see it, multiple times. You can also prep for "The Killing" finale by watching marathons of episodes 1-6 and 7-12 on Saturday and Sunday respectfully on Sundance.
If you're looking for a Father's Day gift, I recommend Henry Winkler's book, I've Never Met an Idiot on the River: Reflections on Family, Fishing, and Photography. When I interviewed Winkler a few months ago, he mentioned the book and I managed to get a copy of it. I'm not much of a photographer and an even worse fisherman, but I though this was a great book that explores topics of kids, fishing, life, etc. in the laid back conversational style that isn't remotely preachy or sappy. Lot's of great historical and show biz anecdotes are provided by Winkler and that only sweetens the pie. Perfect for any Dad.
The Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) announced that Danny DeVito will be honored as the first recipient of the Critics' Choice Television Icon Award at the inaugural Critics' Choice Television Awards, hosted by Cat Deeley and scheduled to take place at a luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel on June 20. Congrats Danny! Can't wait to see you in the upcoming season of "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" on FX.
