TV Junkie: Carson Daly & Tom Papa @ NBC Upfronts; 'Tara' Cancelled; Jane Lynch to host Emmys?
Just a couple more videos from the NBC upfronts. Above is our brief chat with Carson Daly, host of "The Voice" and "Last Call With Carson Daly." Below is comedian Tom Papa, host of "The Marriage Ref" which will return in June with more comedians on the panel.
Jane Lynch, who I always hate to say is 'of "Glee"' since she has done so much other (and better) work, is in talks to host this year's Emmy Awards on September 18th. While I'm a huge Lynch fan I think this is a mistake as the Emmys are a much bigger deal than the DoSomething.org awards and a "Glee"-ified edition of the Emmys will be enough to inspire me to shoot my own TV with a shotgun. Please, TV Academy, do not do this, please get a late night TV host or comedian, for the love of ratings.

Showtime has cancelled "The United States of Tara" which is a shame because it's brought a number of good performances to the small screen, not the least of which is Toni Collette as the lead, Tara Gregson, which she won a Golden Globe and an Emmy for. In the show we got to see Patton Oswalt regularly along with guest stars Natahn Corddry, Eddie Izzard and more. I do have this to say about the show - it wasn't easy to write about as access to people involved with the show was extremely limited. In 3 seasons I somehow managed to not speak to a single person in the production. How is it that I got to speak with most of the cast of "Dexter" and no one from "Tara"? Not that more interviews or press would have saved the show, but one never knows.

Chelsea Handler was in New York City last weekend performing her "The Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me" road show with Josh Wolf, Brad Wollack, and Heather MacDonald and she sat down for what appears to be a fluffed upinterview with the New York Times. There's very little to be learned from the article and all the fluffing was on the part of the NY Times, not Handler, but I guess that's what the Gray Lady has been reduced to, a fluffer. What's also irksome is that the piece starts with "The few times I have seen the talk show "Chelsea Lately"...." - OK, then why the eff are you interviewing Chelsea Handler? Oh, to ask her about her boyfriends. We now live in a world where the New York Times actively competes with US Weekly. Thanks for the disappointing start to the week.
