TV Junkie: USA Network worth 10x NBC Broadcast? 'Glee' Extra Tells Her Story

real-time-billm.jpg
NO: There is not a new "Real Time With Bill Maher" on HBO tonight. YES: Bill Maher will be on "The Late Show With David Letterman." I hope Maher rips Dave a new one for getting all chummy with Rumsfeld last month.

Last Friday's Wall Street Journal has a great article on the USA network which is now part of the NBC Universal conglomerate. USA is hugely important to the company with an asset valuation of $13.4 billion compared to that of NBC's $1.4 billion. We do cover USA series, but perhaps not enough, other than our PaleyFest red carpet coverage of "White Collar," and our sit down interviews with Matt Bomer of "White Collar" and Henry Winkler of "Royal Pains." We will try to get to the network upfronts in NYC for you in May to hear more from the casts of these and other popular USA shows.

Last week we wrote about the extra on "Glee" who was busted for leaking plot details on Twitter. Her leaks have caused production houses to overhaul their contracts in order to stem the flow of this kind of information through punitive damages clauses. This week she gives her perspective on the story over at The Hollywood Reporter. Our perspective is that it doesn't really matter where she heard the plot details - out of respect for her own work, the work of others on the production, and fans that would be disappointed by the spoiler, she should have kept her mouth shut. Now contracts will be even more draconian and expensive to negotiate. TV didn't need that.
