Interview with Donal Logue:

While we've been a big fan of Donal Logue's work over the past 15 years or so, we haven't seen something that has fully leveraged his talent as well as FX's "Terriers" which premieres tonight at 10pm. Sure, Logue has been great on television in "Grounded for Life", "Life", and the short-lived but very funny "Knights of Prosperity", but "Terriers" provides Logue, in his character of Hank Dolworth, a full range of options to explore in every episode: the comedy is great, but there's also plenty of drama and even some action.

Perhaps what we enjoyed most in the first 5 episodes was the extremely well-communicated camaraderie between Logue's Dolworth and co-star Michael Raymond-James' Britt Pollack. These guys look like they're familiar with driving around in a trash-strewn Ford Courier pickup and that they're comfortable with those accommodations. There's more to this game than driving a flashy car and having designer sunglasses. What is the game and who are these guys? That's a great question as even they seem to be asking themselves if they really are private investigators or con men or are they out to enforce a code of justice that the police are unwilling or unable to do.

As part of building the rapport between their characters, evidently Logue and Raymond-James (formerly most well-known as Rene Lenier in HBO's "True Blood") rented a beach house together for some serious hang-out time and it really seems to have worked. The tangibility of this friendship backed by the writing and showrunning of the incredible Shawn Ryan (see our interview with him last year) of "The Shield" fame makes this show one of our top picks for this Fall season. We've been itching for a new show from Ryan since the retirement of "The Shield" and we think that the freedom provided by FX best showcases his type of program much better than The Big Four networks could ever hope to.

Speaking of FX, what did you think of last night's premiere of "Sons of Anarchy"?
We're excited to see Amy Poehler returning to host "SNL" at the September 25th premiere. Katy Perry will be the musical guest - wonder if that means a Russell Brand cameo appearance?
