TV Junkie: White Does Right

NBC promo pic of "Saturday Night Live" star Kristen Wiig and guest host Betty White
In case you missed Betty White's appearance on "SNL" Mashable's got all the clips including the dress rehearsal skits that didn't make it to the live broadcast. The show was also a reunion for former regulars including Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon. The Facebook movement to get White on the show as host resulted in hype that ensured the largest "SNL" audience since the fall of 2008 (remember their election surge?).We've seen a lot of criticism of the show not living up to the hype and complaints about the "blue" comedy bits that featured Whitem but it's that juxtaposition of squeaky-clean and blue, that White knowingly engages in, that has been a large part of her success dating back to "The Mary Tyler Moore Show". Was it the best material ever written? No. Were their opportunities missed? Yes, particularly since there was a chance to comment on the recent healthcare debate with a personality as vibrant as White. Did White live up to the hype? Absolutely. She outshone most of the hosts of the last couple seasons with her professionalism and willingness to thrown herself into whatever the sketch called for - it also appeared that she had memorized her lines, a basic skill that seems to be missing from the performances of almost every host we've seen in recent memory. Congrats to Betty on pulling it off and congrats to "SNL" for taking what was thrown upon them and having a good time with it.

When we interviewed "Lie To Me" showrunner Shawn Ryan back in November, he was excited about his new FX show, "Terriers" - he's evidently so excited that he's making "Terriers" his main priority and will not be returning to run "Lie To Me" even if the show is picked up this fall.

In less that 2 weeks the final episode of "Lost" will air but some say it's doubtful that ABC will get that much a lift from what is expected to be an excited audience. The show is on too late with no opportunity for leads ins to new programming.
