'Star Wars Land' Coming Soon To Disneyland
Details have finally emerged about the Star Wars expansion coming to Disneyland, which will include a ride where you get to pilot the Millennium Falcon.Disney chairman Bob Iger announced on Saturday at the D23 expo in Anaheim that both Disneyland and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida will each expand to include a 14-acre, Star Wars-themed 'land.'
"We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever," said Iger. "These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle."
According to the announcement, the new expansion will be designed to look like a "remote trading port" and will include two rides: one where guests can control the Millennium Falcon and another that takes place in the middle of a "climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance" from the forthcoming The Force Awakens.
The new land will also include a cantina (like the one in the first film), and all servers at restaurants and stores in the Star Wars-themed land will be in character as aliens.
Also announced at D23 today was the confirmation that Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow would be helming Episode IX and that Rogue One expanded its cast to include Ben Mendelsohn, Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker, and Chinese stars Donnie Yen and Jiang Wen.
Earlier this month it was reported that Disney purchased over 14-acres of land adjacent to Disneyland, presumably to make more room in the theme park for expansion.
