Pencil This In: NerdMelt's 'Divine' Art Show, Christmas for Bukowski and a Book on Beck
Bob Baker Marionette Theater continues its 51st season with the opening of its 'Holiday Spectacular' tomorrow.
The end of the week has finally arrived, and we found an eclectic lineup of events for you to choose from tonight. Zombie Joe’s Underground gets in the holiday spirit with the opening of Christmas for Bukowski; photographer Autumn de Wilde discusses and signs her new book on Beck; NerdMelt holds a ‘Divine’ art show opening; Sacred Fools open Crumble (Lay Me Down, Justin Timberlake); and Tender Greens Pasadena holds an art opening. PERFORMANCE
Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre Group gets a head start on the holiday season with its latest show Christmas for Bukowski. The evening includes Bukowski’s finest poems and stories, with a live musical score of new and classic yule-tide tunes by Jessica Lynn Verdi. The show opens tonight at 8:30 pm and plays Fridays through Dec. 16. Tickets: $15
BECK BOOK
Tonight at 7:30 pm, Skylight Books hosts a signing and discussion for photographer Autumn de Wilde (Elliott Smith, Death Cab for Cutie) latest book, Beck. The collection of photos of Beck, based on a 15-year collaboration between the two, includes portraits as well as images from photo sessions, recording sessions and live performances.
ART PARTY*
NerdMelt hosts an opening reception for Pretty? Pretty? A Divine Art Show tonight at 8 pm at Meltdown Comics. The group show celebrates all things related to Divine—cult film legend and John Waters’ muse. The party tonight promises some of the artists in attendance, guest stars, a DJ, free booze, drag performers and plenty of surprises.
ART
Tender Greenslatest location in Pasadena holds an art opening tonight at 7 pm featuring the original work of Pasadena artist Chris Reccardi and LA pop artist Kii Arens. Enjoy local art while noshing on organic eats.
THEATER
Sacred Fools Theater presents the play Crumble (Lay Me Down, Justin Timberlake) by Sheila Callaghan and directed by Jeremy Aluma. A mother and daughter struggle a year after the passing of their husband/father. Their only reprieves come from visitations from their respective celebrity crushes—Justin Timberlake and Harrison Ford. “With the support of Justin's affection, Janice begins to craft a plan that will mend the chasm in their lives. Meanwhile, the Apartment is developing murderous plans of its own...” It opens tonight at 8 pm and runs through Dec. 18. Tickets: $20, $16 for students and seniors.
