Pencil This In: Max Maven Magic Lecture at the Skirball, Rokyo Gourmet Ramen Truck at Breadbar and RuPaul at Amoeba

ART
Gallery1988: Melrose presents the solo exhibit Baggage & Freedomwith works by Kansas City artist D. Ross aka Scribe. The opening reception will be held tonight from 7-10 pm, when G1988 unveils his paintings and sculptures. This show will run through July 1.


LECTURE
In conjunction with the two exhibits Houdini: Art and Magicand Masters of Illusion, the Skirball hosts a lecture by mentalist, magician, and author Max Maven tonight at 8 pm. In the program Jews and Magic, Maven will discuss how and why Jewish magicians flourished in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Tickets: $12, $10 for Skirball members an $6 for full-time students

FOOD

Breadbar in Century City continues the Hatchi Truck Stop series tonight (every last Thursday of the month) from 6-10 pm. The evening brings in food truck chefs to offer a small plates priced at $8 each ($32 minimum purchase per guest). Tonight’s guest menu is provided by theRokyo Gourmet Ramen Truck and Chef Meghan Brenner and Owners Ray Ting. Dishes on the menu will be paired with Asian-inspired handcrafted cocktails from 1886 in Pasadena. Dishes include Tempura Eggs, Curry Pan, Rokyo Ramen, Bibimbap and  Kabuki Cake.

SIGNING
Amoeba Music Hollywood hosts a signing tonight for RuPaul at 6 pm. Line forms at 3 pm on Ivar. She’ll be signing copies of her CD Glamazon. Buy a CD and get a pass for the signing. (Tickets are limited - while they last!) No photos with RuPaul will be allowed, but Amoeba will have a photographer taking photos of each person at the signing table and will post on amoeba.com by 5 pm on Friday to download.
