No Giant Village?

One year ago, Congress defunded public media. Now that we're 100% community funded, please become a sustaining member or increase your existing membership today.

According to a few reports, including one on LJ's LA community page, it looks like you won't have access to Fergie's Humps tonight (or Ben Gibbard's or Jason Bentley's for that matter). Police and Fire officials have supposedly cancelled Giant Village 6 for safety concerns.

UPDATE: The fire department says it was event organizers, not authorities.

Weren't going to Giant Village tonight? Well, you probably still have to worry about this problem as that means there will be literally thousands of LA revelers with no where to go. Expect them to be crashing your party plans in droves.

For those displaced party people still looking to get down tonight, LAist recommends the Temple Bar on the west side and a midnight performance by Breakestra. Get some funk in your life. Tickets are only $40, it's a full night of music and there's free champagne also at midnight.

Celebrate the new year shaking what your mama gave ya.

UPDATE #2: Please don't post Dave Dean's (or anyone's) Home Address and phone # in the comments. It will be removed. The appropriate complaint channel is through Giant's official contact info:

One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our nonprofit newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our communities. We are free to follow facts wherever they lead and to hold power to account without fear or favor. Our only loyalty is to our readers and listeners and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen Southern California’s communities.
