Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban Named 'American Idol' Judges
Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban have been named as judges on "American Idol."
The pair will join a panel alongside longtime "Idol" judge Randy Jackson, and newcomer Mariah Carey, according to the New York Post. The pair replaces Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, who announced they were leaving the show this summer.
Urban said his experience as a talent show competition will influence the kind of judge he is: "I did similar shows when I was very young in Australia and I was sort of crucified by one judge. So I don't know that I'll ever be THAT guy."
Even though the ratings are still great for the show, the Post reports that the show had its least-viewed finale ever last season and the show is losing viewers in the young adult demographic. To boot, it's been a while since the show produced a Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson.
Maybe Jezebel's worries about the crowded talent show field have already come true: "We're in danger of overfarming our talent fields. We're going to overfish the singing sea!"
