Free Comic Book Day is exactly what it sounds like. On the first Saturday in May, participating comic book shops across country and around planet Earth will "give away comic books absolutely FREE to anyone who comes into their stores," notes the official site. Enter your zip code here and find the closest participating shops.
In LA today, special events abound from the Secret Headquarters in Silver Lake to Golden Apple on Melrose to Meltdown on Sunset to Hi De Ho's big Lincoln Blvd location in Santa Monica. Valley? Try Galaxy of Comics in Van Nuys or Collectors Paradise on Winnetka or Earth-2 in Reseda. Long Beach, Pasadena, Manhattan Beach, Glendale, Studio City, Anaheim, & Whittier, you have not been forsaken. Gather your cape and venture forth. Plenty of shops there too.
