LAst Laugh: This Week in Comedy

MONDAY 4/06
The Smokes, 7p UCB. This new improv megateam tackles two crazy structures in one hour, right in front of your eyes.
The Situation We’re In, 8p iO West. Andy Dick and Mo Collins probably have a lot to talk about. What with the drugs and the jail and all.
TUESDAY 4/07
The Birthday Boys, 8p UCB. The great sketch team Birthday Boys gets their own dedicated half hour to rock your face off. Definitely check this one out.
I Eat Pandas, 8p Comedy Central Stage. Three improvised musicals in one hour! Two people!
WEDNESDAY 4/08
Wallace and Monroe, 8p Comedy Central Stage. A compilation of selected scenes and improvisations from longtime Chicago performers Claudia Michelle Wallace and Maribeth Monroe.
LA Connection, 8p Comedy Store. An Improv comedy showcase is all the shitty Comedy Store website has to offer, so beyond navigating that cyber shithole, you’re on your own. All I know is that improv at the Comedy Store is generally better than decent.
THURSDAY 4/09
Fracas! Improv Festival, Thursday through Saturday USC. It’s back! The yearly Fracas! Improv Festival takes over USC with sponsorship from The Onion. The largest collegiate improv festival in America hosts teams from all across the US from 6p to 11p, with panels of comedians during the day.
Laughing with the Stars, 8p Laugh Factory. Fresh off the Recession Obsession tip, Tom Arnold throws a free show for anyone who can prove they’re unemployed.
FRIDAY 4/10
Doug Benson, 8p The Improv. You’ve probably seen him around town already, but Doug has really been kicking it up a notch lately. Come check out a full set instead of the comedy gold he usually throws on stage during the Benson Interruption.
Gabriel Iglesias, 8:30p Ice House. A really nice, really funny guy. You probably recognize him, and if not then definitely check him out here.
SATURDAY 4/11
Jeremy Hotz, 7p Comedy & Magic Club. Keen observational humor from a goofy white guy. Sounds original enough.
Jamie Kennedy, 8p Ice House. Kennedy takes on the Ice House.
SUNDAY 4/12
UCB Salutes Moral Orel, 9:30p UCB. Matt Besser opens up the theatre for a free evening show that really pays homage to the wonderful Adult Swim show Moral Orel. Check clips from the show and listen as Besser talks to the creator of the show!
Oh My God!, 10p iO West. An Easter-themed variety hour at iO West, hosted by none other than Mary and Joseph!
As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
