One year ago, Congress defunded public media. Now that we're 100% community funded, please become a sustaining member or increase your existing membership today.

It's certainly a cold one out there, folks. So if you're looking for an excuse to get in out of the weather (or an excuse to hear comedians stand on stage and complain about the weather themselves), consider one of these great shows happening all over town.

If you've got a show coming up that you'd like to see listed, email me.

MONDAY 1/14

Hot Tub, 7p The Virgil. Kurt Braunohler and Kristen Schaal's great variety show returns to The Virgil tonight with Jon Daly, Paul Scheer, Jonah Ray and Jane Borden.

Pretty, Pretty Pony, 10p Westside Comedy. This long form improv show uses stories from others as a jumping off point for scenes, and they've found a fantastic storyteller in Bobcat Goldthwait this week.

TUESDAY 1/15

Comedy Central Freshman Faces, 8p Westside Comedy. There's a new showcase show in town, and it's got a lot of promising young stand ups on the list, including Karl Hess, Will Weldon, Daryl Wright and others.

Comedy Juice, 10p Hollywood Improv. The Improv on Melrose welcomes in a night full of stand ups, including Natasha Leggero.

THURSDAY 1/17

Onassis: Is This the Place?, 8p UCB. One of New York City's premiere sketch groups is legging through the West Coast, and they're stopping at UCB on Franklin for the night. This isn't a show you should miss.

Laugh Bowl Semi-Finals, 10p Laugh Factory. Adam Devine is hosting this stand up battle between some of the best stand ups from UCLA and USC. Choose two of each to go on to the finals!

One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our nonprofit newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our communities. We are free to follow facts wherever they lead and to hold power to account without fear or favor. Our only loyalty is to our readers and listeners and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen Southern California’s communities.
