LAst Laugh: This Week in Comedy
As if there weren't enough great shows happening this week, the Everything Is Festival is headed to Cinefamily for a week of great, oddball stuff. See below for a couple of recommendations.
If you've got an upcoming show that you'd like to see listed here, email me. I promise I'll keep it tasteful.
MONDAY 8/20
Show & Tell, 8p Cinefamily. The Everything Is Festival is taking over Cinefamily for the week, and Joel Hodgson is sitting in for the night to talk MST3K, Cinematic Titanic and a ton of failed experiments in television along the way.
Dat Sh*t, 10:30p Westwood Brewing. Sean Patton leads the way for a night of stand up that also features Nicholas Anthony and David Cope.
TUESDAY 8/21
Comedy Night, 7:30p Best Fish Taco. Everyone loves Best Fish Taco in Ensenada, the Los Feliz fish taco spot on Hillhurst. Now, come out and enjoy some laughs while you’re at it, with Chelsea Peretti, The Walsh Brothers, DJ Douggpound and more.
5 Comics & A Side of Fries, 9p Michael’s Bar & Grille. This recurring Tuesday show features David Robinson (MAYBE THE BASKETBALL PLAYER YOU DON’T KNOW) and Blaine Capatch.
WEDNESDAY 8/22
Room 101 Anniversary, 8p The Complex. The city’s best indie improv show turns three, and they’re celebrating with Dierkes & Fernie, The Smokes, Neutrino & Friends and more.
The Meltdown, 8:30p NerdMelt Theater. One of the best stand up shows going features Kumail Nanjiani, Jonah Ray, Jim Hamilton, Neal Brennan and others.
THURSDAY 8/23
Pam Murphy Like Me, 8p UCB. Pam Murphy wants you to know that we’re all a lot more similar than you’d think. If you don’t believe her, come watch her insane characters. If they aren’t just like you and I, then well, I don’t know what.
ABCG Presents…, 9:30p Little Modern. Looking for laughs with a side of charity? This month’s ABCG improv show features UCB house team Last Day of School, with proceeds going to help Planned Parenthood.
FRIDAY 8/24
EIF: Talent Show, 8p Cinefamily. Nick Offerman, Show Beast and a ton more great groups are coming together at Cinefamily for a night of silly, fun laughs.
Found Footage Festival, 9p Largo. If you’re looking for weird and often hilarious found footage, Largo is the place for you this weekend.
SATURDAY 8/25
Set List, 8p NerdMelt Theater. Stand ups get their set list right before they go on, and have to improvise their sets around what’s on the sheet of paper. Featuring Harland Williams, Rory Scovel, Chris Fairbanks and more.
Bi-Partisan Comedy, 10p UCB. Both sides are coming together for an evening of bits that is sure to bridge the great Congressional divide.
SUNDAY 8/26
Celebrity Celebrity, 8p Largo. Great celebs like Sarah Silverman, Rob Delaney, Martin Starr, Busy Phillips and more are playing the game Celebrity, to benefit the Pablove Foundation.
Neil Hamburger, 9p The Satellite. Hamburger’s residency continues, with Brendan Walsh, Charlyne Yi and others.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
