Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

This week is absolutely packed with big shows, from Tiger Lily's 5 Year Anniversary show to the MaximumFun.Org guys putting on a show in Pasadena. No show is too near or too far, to cheap or too expensive. Not when the line ups are this good.

If you've got a show coming up that you'd like to get listed, email me!

MONDAY 10/10

What’s Up, Tiger Lily? 5th Anniversary, 8p Hollywood Studio Bar & Grill. It’s going to be an unbelievable night, with Patton Oswalt, Matt Braunger, TJ Miller, Brody Stevens and way way way way more!

Harold Night, 9:30p UCB. Harold Night is set for some shake-ups as UCB holds another round of auditions this coming weekend. The Great War and Kid Grift are closing things out for a reason - they kill.

TUESDAY 10/11

Eric Idle, 7:30p Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills. There are few things more worth your $20 than seeing Eric Idle (he of Monty Python fame) talk about everything medieval and hilarious.

The Smartest Man in the World, 8p Comedy Central Stage. Greg Proops is back to tape another live version of his podcast. Get your free tickets while you can!

WEDNESDAY 10/12

Drysdale & Gausas, 8p Comedy Central Stage. Rebecca Drysdale and Christina Gausas bring NY-style two-woman improv to the LA masses. This show is a MUST.

Room 101, 8p The Complex - Flight Theater. Room 101 continues to lead the way for indie comedy in LA, with incredible teams like PALS and Toledo Rep set to shake the room with laughter.

THURSDAY 10/13

Two Thumbs Way Down, 8p Nerdist Theater at Meltdown Comics. Eli Olsberg and Rory Scovel are bringing in Kumail Nanjiani and Pete Holmes to offer live commentary on some of the worst films you’re likely to see. Bonus: you get to vote on what they watch!

Meghann & Whitney are Insecure, 8p Second City. Meghann Murphy and Whitney Teubner just can’t get their shit together. And it’s not just now, it’s been happening their WHOLE LIVES. Don’t believe me? Check their great two-woman sketch show and find out for yourself.

FRIDAY 10/14

Long Way Down, 7:30p Culver City. For obvious reasons, we can’t give you ALL the details about where Long Way Down is happening, but Ron Lynch, Karl Hess, Melissa Villasenor and a bunch more great comics are going to be there. Plus, we love it.

LA Disaster, 10p The Complex. The Strait Jacket Society is back with a fall run of sketch comedy shows, including this perfectly disastrous Saturday late show.

SUNDAY 10/16

Tom Green, 7p Irvine Improv. Green is doing a full weekend in Irvine. Should get… interesting.

Stripped Stories, 9:30p UCB. Margot Leitman and Giulia Rozzi host a storytelling show that lays everything bare.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
