Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Well, Brent Weinbach sure is the star of the week. He's all over town, prepping for the upcoming Bridgetown Comedy Festival. Elsewhere, yours truly has a show, Benson is at Largo, and there's more than enough improv to go around.

Let me know if you'd like me to list a future show, and I'll try to make it happen.

MONDAY 4/11

Mystic Mondays, 10:30p Del Close Theater at iO West. A trifecta of indie teams share the stage with Tarodactyl. This week Sealion Special, Free Radicals and Bronze Medal bring the pan.

Tigerpants, 10:30p iO West. Not feeling Mystic Mondays? Head around the corner for Tigerpans, some lightening-fast improv.

TUESDAY 4/12

Hugs, Drugs & Thugs, 8p Comedy Central Stage. YOURS TRULY is doing at show! Two white rapping motivational speakers at a middle school, talking about drugs? Yes please!

Rough Cut, 11p UCB. We open on a renegade crew of UCB’s best improvisers (including Colton Dunn, Brian Finkelstein, Suzi Barrett and more), tackling the movie form in what’s sure to be a lights-out show.

WEDNESDAY 4/13

Benson Interruption, 9p Largo. Benson uses his own mic to interrupt the sets of some of today’s best comics.

Cagematch, 11p UCB. Skinny Business Will Not Apologize continues to dominate the stage, but will be facing Curtis Gwinn’s Me & You.

Space Boners, 7p Silverlake Lounge. Don’t blame the name - this show really is great. This time around, it’s a primer for the upcoming Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland, and they’ve got Ron Lynch, Brent Weinbach, Margie Kment and more swinging by.

Grand Theft Audio, 11p Hollywood Improv Lab. Brent Weinbach, Melinda Hill and Conan writers Brian Kiley and Brian McCann are all doing sets at the Lab.

SUNDAY 4/17

Chris Hardwick, 7p Irvine Improv. Hardwick is in Irvine all weekend.

Magic Radio Theater, 10p Sunday. The MRT folks are doing a Bat Harold (a Harold in the dark), while trying to raise money for the Choroideremia Research Foundation.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
