LAist Film Calendar 11/24-11/27: The Cinefamily & The Seminarian

This Thanksgiving, the Not-So-Silent Movie Theatre cranks it far beyond 11, with the conclusion of Cinefamily's Rockvember: A Concert Film Cornucopia series! Tomorrow, go full Plymouth with a members-only potluck dinner accompanied by The Last Waltz (recorded no less than 35 years ago!). Friday's stuffed with riffs, Brits & god knows how many psychedelics for the ultimate classic rock showdown: Pink Floyd vs. Led Zeppelin! If your levies remain intact, stick around for a midnight screening of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. It's a roller coaster ride of black comedy & red gore, culminating in another deadly metal duel.

The saw may be (Cine)family, but Laemmle's Music Hall has The Seminarian, an indie drama with an equally rough family dynamic. Ryan struggles to juggle a graduate thesis, close friendships, a commitment-phobic boyfriend...and keep his sexuality a secret from his mother. Any film with two men stealing kisses in seminary school is bound to turn heads, but filmmaker Joshua Lim looks past the controversy of a closeted man & his deeply religious family. Instead, his characters examine "the paradox of love", how divine passion is intertwined with crushing heartache. The Seminarian opens exclusively at Laemmle's Music Hall, with Lim appearing for a Q&A after the afternoon screening on Sunday.
