Get Out: NHM Bug Fair, Civil War Re-Enactment At Pierce College, Taste Of The Eastside At Barnsdall

Bug Out: "One of the most popular Museum events, Bug Fair is held on the second weekend of May each year! The two-day Bug Fair is an insect extravaganza with hundreds of things to see and do," says the Natural History Museum. 70 Exhibitors, Governmental agencies, educational institutions, entomological societies, private companies, have on display and for sale thousands of items including preserved (and live) insect specimens, books, equipment, supplies, products, honey, silk, wax, art, toys, clothing, and more. There are special guests and programs, citizen science projects, cockroach races, roaming insects, and a cook off. Event is included with regular Museum admission. Until 5:00 p.m.
Yummersday In The Park: Beautiful Barnsdall hosts a hilltop garden party for the Taste of the Eastside, an afternoon of food, wine, beer and music showcasing "the best of independent restaurants primarily from the neighborhoods of Silver Lake, Echo Park, Atwater, Eagle Rock, Los Feliz, Downtown, and Highland Park." Tasting portions allow you to sample lots of restaurants and discover your new favorite venues for dining out. KCRW DJ Garth Trinidad will help you eat to the beat from 2:00-4:00p.m. Cocktail tasting with mixologist Talmadge Lowe of Heirloom L.A. from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Family art workshop from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Plus a Skylight book signing event. Proceeds from the green event will be divided between a local non-profits and Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Barnsdall Art Park, 4800 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027 (parking at Kaiser Permanente across the street or go Metro to the Vermont/Sunset Station), 1:00-5:00 p.m.
What Is It Good For? It's Civil War re-enactment time. If that's your thing or you're simply feeling South Park about it, go join hundreds of re-enactors as they "recreate the epic conflict of the American Civil War" on the fields of Pierce College in Woodland Hills. "Visitors will view exciting cavalry charges, artillery barrages, and infantry assaults," watch demonstrations and presentations, Victorian dancing, military drills and skills, era-related crafts and historical actors (ie: President Lincoln will give the Gettysburg Address).
