CULTURE: The Autry will celebrate Las Posadas, a Mexican tradition where children portray Mary and Joseph seeking shelter pre-Nativity. The event will also feature a performance from Grandeza Mexicana and Harmonies Girls Choir (and hot chocolate!) The program runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Museum rates apply.

SHOP: L.A. Craft Experience hosts GIFTED: A Holiday Market for Uncommon Goods at the Santa Monica Pier from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The market will feature food and crafts as well as a DIY gift-wrapping station and crochet classes.

COMEDY: Nerdist will host a free open mic at Meltdown's NerdMelt Showroom from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Get there on time to sign up for a slot or just listen in: great standups like Chris Hardwick and Kumail Nanjiani are frequent guests.

CLASSICAL: The L.A. Phil welcomes former conductor Zubin Mehta to lead an honorary program of Mozart, Hindemith and Dvorak at Disney Hall at 2 p.m. Tickets start at $24.

One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our nonprofit newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our communities. We are free to follow facts wherever they lead and to hold power to account without fear or favor. Our only loyalty is to our readers and listeners and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen Southern California’s communities.
