ART: Tonight is the opening reception for the exhibition "Friendship of Nations: Polish Shi’ite Showbiz," which marks the Los Angeles debut of an international collective Slavs and Tatars. The exhibition includes sculpture, tapestries, photographic murals and is an "examination of the unlikely points of convergence in Poland and Iran’s economic, social, political, religious and cultural histories, from seventeenth-century Sarmatism to the twenty-first-century Green Movement." The reception will include a lecture and it goes from 6 until 9 pm. For more information, visit REDCAT's website.

MUSIC: "DUM DUM" is hosting a party to celebrate the release of its third issue in an event that will include readings, beer and, of course, bands. Dan Collins, Ladyheat, Mahssa, Spaceships and The Withers will be playing. The event kicks off at 7 pm at the Echo Country Outpost at 1770 Glendale Blvd. It's $1 before 9pm and #5 afterward. For more information, hit up the event's Facebook page.

FOOD: Brothers Eli and Max Sussman will be signing copies of their new cookbook, titled "This is a Cookbook: Recipes for Real Life," at the Williams Sonoma in Beverly Hills today from 3 - 5 p.m. The book compiles over 75 recipes for the home cook, with dishes like grilled meatball sandwiches, savory waffles and chocolate-peanut butter pie. For more information, check out our previous write-up.

BIOLOGY: This early Valentine's Day event is pretty wild. The Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (GLAZA) is hosting an event called "Sex And The City Zoo 4: Sexy Beast" at the Los Angeles City Zoo that celebrates "romance in the animal kingdom." Actress Joleen Lutz will give a light-hearted talk. There will be food, a chance to speak to some of the keepers and even some small animals to view up close. Tickets to the event are $40 per person for non-members plus an extra $75 for dinner. Adults only. Call (323) 644-6042 for reservations or visit the zoo's website.
