STAR-GAZING: Interested in hiking under the evening sky? Check out the event "2012: A Story in the Stars" at Temescal Gateway Park. You'll learn about what you can learn from the stars—and what the Mayan calendar really shows. The program sponsored by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy lasts two hours and it starts at 5:30pm. The park is located at 15601 W. Sunset Blvd. in the Pacific Palisades. Parking is $7 but the event is free. Meet at the front parking lot.
CONTEMPORARY: A tribute to the late artist Mike Kelley will be opening up at MOCA Grand Avenue today. The artist took his own life last month, while he was at his home in South Pasadena. Now MOCA will be offering "A Tribute to Mike Kelley" in an exhibition that features several works from Kelley in its permanent collection, as well as works that Kelley had donated to the museum.
Also: L.A. Taco is hosting a photo show tonight at Lomography L.A. to celebrate its 2nd birthday from 6 to 10 pm. The event is being held at 7998 Santa Monica Blvd., and yes, there will be free tacos.
