The director of The Godfather in Genoa City? What can it mean? Francis Ford Coppola visited the set of the CBS soap The Young and the Restless this week in possibly the greatest pop-culture crossover since ultra-serious filmmakerIngmar Berman visited the set of Jaws.

Is he a secret soap fan? Penning a mafioso storyline for the long-running series?

Nope, he was just there to learn more about multi-camera and live TV, the Huffington Post reports.

According to HuffPo, the Oscar-winning director visited the control room and after observing production, said, "I'm enjoying being at 'The Young and the Restless.' The people are wonderful. I'm learning a lot."

CBS provided photographic proof of Coppola visiting with actors Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott), Jess Walton (Jill Foster Abbott Fenmore), and Billy Miller (Billy Abbott).

It's not the first time Coppola has dipped his toe into television: He executive-produced two Emmy-nominated miniseries in the late '90s, Moby Dick and The Odyssey., as well as the sci-fi series First Wave. He also directed the "Rip Van Winkle" episode of Faerie Tale Theatre in 1987.

If he's interested in doing live TV, let's hope he's mastered the art more since hisglitchy "live, interactive" presentation of his most recent film, Twixt at Comic-Con in 2011.
