Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

The LAPD is reportedly investigating Chris Brown for a car accident, one that may violate the terms of his probation.

The singer rear ended another car on May 21 and TMZ reports that it became a hit-and-run after Brown supposedly refused to give the other driver his driver's license number. He also gave her the wrong insurance information, according to TMZ.

Brown is still on probation for the 2009 Rihanna beating, so if he broke the law in any way, it could violate those terms and lead to a prison sentence of up to four years.

Since celebrity probation violations so rarely lead to actual jail time, we're not holding our breath. Police are said to be interested in speaking to the singer about the incident.

Meanwhile, Brown spent the weekend soaking up the sun in Las Vegas, as E! breathlessly writes, "Brown spent Sunday surrounded by bikini-clad women at the Palms Pool & Bungalows at the Palms Casino Resort. The 'Fine China' singer soaked up the sun by the pool with an entourage of friends and possibly on-again girlfriend Karrueche Tran and later performed on stage in front of a massive crowd."

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
