The LAPD is reportedly investigating Chris Brown for a car accident, one that may violate the terms of his probation.

The singer rear ended another car on May 21 and TMZ reports that it became a hit-and-run after Brown supposedly refused to give the other driver his driver's license number. He also gave her the wrong insurance information, according to TMZ.

Brown is still on probation for the 2009 Rihanna beating, so if he broke the law in any way, it could violate those terms and lead to a prison sentence of up to four years.

Since celebrity probation violations so rarely lead to actual jail time, we're not holding our breath. Police are said to be interested in speaking to the singer about the incident.

Meanwhile, Brown spent the weekend soaking up the sun in Las Vegas, as E! breathlessly writes, "Brown spent Sunday surrounded by bikini-clad women at the Palms Pool & Bungalows at the Palms Casino Resort. The 'Fine China' singer soaked up the sun by the pool with an entourage of friends and possibly on-again girlfriend Karrueche Tran and later performed on stage in front of a massive crowd."

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.

Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
