Cinefamily's Fantastic Elastic Telethon Will Feature Jena Malone, Anjelica Huston, Tim And Eric

The Cinefamily, the amazing and important arthouse film collective, is having its annual Fantastic Elastic 24 Hour Holiday Telethon this weekend, featuring an incredible lineup that will include Anjelica Huston, Jena Malone, Father John Misty, Tim and Eric, Miranda July, Mike Judge and much more.Cinefamily, which makes its home in the old Silent Movie Theater in West Hollywood, is looking to raise $250,000 to cover operation costs, new equipment purchases and other expenses. We previously included Cinefamily as one of the best theaters in Los Angeles, so we would really love for them to keep doing their thing.
In addition to the celebrity guests, drone metal mainstays Earth will be performing a live soundtrack to Werner Herzog's beloved documentary "Fata Morgana," a barbershop quartet will perform the soundtrack to "Koyannisqatsi," and horror sountrack masters Nilbog will play everyone's favorite John Carpenter soundtracks. At the end of the telethon, actor Bruce Dern (who you can see in Alexander Payne's new film "Nebraska") will be presented with Cinefamily's first ever lifetime achievement award.
Last year, Robert Downey Jr. bought Cinefamily a bigger and better projector, and the money raised from members and fans allowed them to purchase better seats (thank god) and install couches in the front of the theater. Based on this, the money raised this year will definitely fund some great perks for the theater.
The telethon will run from 1 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday. The entire event is free and open to the public, and it will all be streamed live on the Cinefamily's website. The full lineup, plus a link to the livestream, can be found here.
As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
