The fabulous Cher participated in an AMA thread on Reddit today, and she was as charming and open and goofy as she always is online. The occasion was her new album and tour. She joked about being 100 years old, there were marriage proposals from worshipful gay fans and she couldn't seem to resist throwing some shade at Madonna (again).

She answered questions about her favorite movie (Godfather II), what kind of eye glitter she wears (it was Urban Decay with Duo adhesive on Letterman), her inspiration when she started her career (Elvis), who she'd like to duet with now (Bruno Mars, Pink, Merle Haggard, Blake Shelton) and the last time she cried (while watching Artificial Intelligence last night).

Here are some of the best parts of her AMA:

  • Cher confessed that she loves ghosts: "I actually think that Sonny makes a light go on. I have a beautiful chandelier that he makes the light go on when it is impossible, there is no power on. I love ghosts, I prefer ghosts to some people."
  • She pondered what might have happened if Sonny had never come along: "I've been Cher since I was 3. But he focused the energy, but I have no idea. I might be a bank robber. Or Editor of French Vogue."
  • Cher was asked to give advice to other parents whose children like hers identify as transgender and she suggested chilling: "What I've realized, just lately, in the beginning I think I was afraid of losing a child before I got the new one. Of losing the old one before I got the new one. But we have such a great time now, and I realize that there is no loss. In the beginning, you're just not sure. As parents, it's a little bit scary. Maybe, what people need to do is just CHILL and not be frightened. It's not all about you, or it wasn't about me."
  • Cher explains that she never really hated Madonna but then she couldn't seem to resist calling her a bitch (again) and giving her a backhanded compliment: "I never hated her, I just thought she was a bitch. Actually I quite respect her. Actually I think Madge might be one of the most amazing artists I've known. I don't like everything she does, for sure, but she is always riding the crest of the wave. She always saw trends WAY before anyone else, and had great videos."
  • She said the worst part of being a celebrity is (shocker) not having any privacy. The best part of being Cher is doing whatever the eff you want: "Like I just woke up one morning and decided I was going to Katmandu. That opened up a completely new life with great new friends."
  • The question she gets asked most: "Do I believe in life after love?" (She had no comment.)
  • Cher responded to several fans' stories about how they were touched by her work and she also responded to one fan asking for advice on getting out of an abusive relationship: "You have to get out of it immediately. Life is too short. Also, no one can love you if they are abusing you. Those two things can't happen at the same time. Also if you are young you can't see the future. That's dead end, sometimes literally."
  • And here's how to nab her, gentleman: "Well to get my attention are looks. But to keep my attention is a totally different thing. I like Kind is the best thing, then the next thing is sense of humor. Then all the rest of the stuff but those things are big on the list. Actually it takes quite a lot to keep my attention, because I have a short attentions span."
