Video: Aisha Tyler's Quick Thinking Saves Daytime Emmys Mix-Up
An envelope mix-up at the Daytime Emmys Sunday might have been a disaster, except for Aisha Tyler's quick response.
The former Talk Soup host was presenting Outstanding Talk Show, Informative category along with Sheryl Underwood, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, and Julie Chen. She had the honors of reading the winner, then realized she had been handed the wrong envelope.
"Oh! Interestingly enough, this winner is not in this category," she exclaimed after opening the envelope. "But it's exciting to see, and if I read it out, I'm going to give another category away. I'm just going to put it back in the envelope and I'm just going to hang out."
She stalled for time until someone could bring her the right envelope saying, "Someone's going to bring me another envelope and it's going to have a lot of money and a puppy," she joked, adding, "Apparently Homeland won for Best Informative Talk Show. It's a great show, they win all the time."
Before reading the real winner (The Dr. Oz Show), she announced, "There had better be a cocktail waiting at my table."
The awards show was held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.
