Major League Baseball teams with the L.A.-based pop art gallery to present original paintings, prints and sculptures inspired by America's pastime. The gallery has worked with several of its fave artists to develop this show. The public reception runs from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday night.

The festival's lineup features bands, musical artists, comedians and immersive experiences in the Adult Swim aesthetic. 40 Years of UCLA Student Filmmaking

The UCLA Film & Television Archive celebrates the school's centennial with a screenings of its first four decades of student films. On Friday at 7:30 p.m., the program covers the 1950s to the early 1960s, while Saturday's screening (7:30 p.m.) covers films from the mid-1960s. The films veer from conventional narratives to boundary-crossing works.

Danny Pino, Andy Garcia and Joely Fisher star in Maxwell Anderson's Broadway play (made famous when it became a film noir starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall). Returning from World War II, disillusioned vet Frank McCloud (Pino) travels to a hotel in Key Largo to pay his respects to the widow of a fallen friend. But now has to deal with the mobsters, led by the ruthless Johnny Rocco (Garcia), who have taken control of the hotel.

Nitrate Nights 2019
The Egyptian Theatre -- 6712 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood
Around 1950, the film industry switched to safer -- i.e., less flammable -- film stocks but until then, movies were screened on nitrate. The Egyptian is one of the few SoCal venues still allowed to show nitrate films, and this weekend, it will screen ultra-rare prints of Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca and Spellbound, the Powell & Pressburger classic Gone to Earth and the film noirs Laura and Nightmare Alley.

The Get Together

Charles Lummis' Home and Its Remarkable Visitors
Southwest Museum -- 234 Museum Dr., Mt. Washington
In the late 1890s and early 1900s, the home of Charles Lummis, in Highland Park, was a gathering place for artists, writers, preservationists, politicians and other historical figures. Known as El Alisal, the house still stands and remains a landmark of Northeast Los Angeles. Learn about the venue's early guests at a new exhibition. There's an opening reception on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. in which you can view the original Lummis housebook and enjoy light refreshments in the courtyard. The exhibition is only open Saturdays through Dec. 28.

Solange curates and programs a series of performances, films and artist talks that explore "transitions through time." The weekend features new site-specific work by Gerard & Kelly based on their Modern Living series of performances. The duo directs in collaboration with Solange, who composed an original musical score, "Bridge-s." Film screenings include Mother Tongue, Mother Master, 2018 by Phoebe Collings-James, Wild Seed by Samuel Hindolo, Diary of an African Nun and Four Women by Julie Dash, Black to Techno by Jenn Nkiru, among others. There's also an talk with British Ghanaian philosopher Kodwo Eshun.

The Salon presents the U.S. premiere exhibition of Belfast, Ireland-based artist Pim, who has created more than 20 oil-on-canvas works from floral paintings to large-scale battle scenes. For its inaugral public project, Active Cultures has enlisted three artists to lead participants in creating a site-specific production. Sarah Rara leads a textile workshop on Saturday and Nancy Stella Soto follows that with a sewing workshop on Sunday. The following Saturday (Nov. 23), Mecca Vazie Andrews conducts a movement workshop culminating in a performance that incorporates the clothing, sounds and movements created during the first two workshops. Each workshop includes a communal meal and a public conversation.

Seven Orange County cities -- La Habra, Buena Park, Anaheim, Stanton, Garden Grove, Westminster and Huntington Beach -- band together to present an open streets event and community festival that reimagines Beach Boulevard. This civic alliance is dedicated to transforming the 21-mile historic corridor into a more walkable and bikeable active street and they're doing it, at least for a day with plenty of programming and activities along the route.
