Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your year-end tax-deductible gift now.

Singing in L.A. traffic is quite the cash cow, it appears: Emma Stone has usurped Jennifer Lawrence's title as Hollywood's highest paid actress, Forbes reports, pulling in a cool $26 million this year. No word yet on where Jimmy Fowlie, who reprises Stone's role as the irrepressible Mia in his drag rendition of the one-woman show from La La Land, falls on the Forbes list, but we can only assume he's up there.

Although Lawrence earned but a pauper's $24 million this year, she and Stone don't appear to be letting paltry money disputes affect their friendship; in a recent Vogue profile of the Hunger Games star, Stone described Lawrence as "just fun" and "a shot of light." Forbes' list of the top five highest paid female actresses also includes Jennifer Aniston (duh), Mila Kunis (hmm) and Melissa McCarthy (bless.)

Stone and Lawrence each have their own coterie of loyal fans, but at the end of the day, I think we can all agree the important thing is that white, slender, conventionally attractive actresses continue to earn lots of money in Hollywood.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive before year-end will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
