Clear skies ahead of another winter storm

Very clear, mostly cloudy skies over a neighborhood filled with vegetation close to sunset, with mountains and a pink streak in the clouds in the background.
Enjoy another sunny and dry day before more rain comes.

L.A. County valleys, the Inland Empire and inland Orange County will see similar temperatures with highs ranging from 61 to 70 degrees.

Mountain communities such as Wrightwood and Big Bear will see highs in the mid-40s to low 50s, while areas around the Santa Monica Mountains will range from 59 to 69 degrees.

Over in the Coachella Valley, temperatures will range from 72 to 77 degrees. Meanwhile in the Antelope Valley, expect highs from 59 to 67 degrees. Tonight's lows will drop to the upper 40s.

What we know about the storm system this week

The National Weather Service said that a storm system is expected to move into the region Wednesday into Friday, bringing widespread rain and mountain snow.

The coasts and valleys could get between one-half and 1 inch of rain, and between 1 and 3 inches of rain in the foothills and mountain. This could lead to some roadway flooding and shallow debris flows in recent burn scar areas, according to forecasters.

Snow levels are also expected to drop by Thursday to between 3,500 and 4,000 feet. We could get between four and eight inches of snow at the 5,000-foot level, and a little over a foot at the resort levels. There's also a chance of gusty winds in the mountains and deserts.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
