Strong Santa Ana winds and critical fire weather conditions to continue

Good morning, it's a windy start to Tuesday.

Strong and damaging Santa Ana winds have arrived across portions of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, bringing dangerous fire weather conditions.

The National Weather Service says it should taper off Wednesday.

Daily forecast

Temperatures will reach a few degrees warmer than Monday with highs in the upper 60s for the beaches and low 70s for L.A. County.

Orange County will reach the mid 70s, with a high of 75 degrees expected in Costa Mesa and Anaheim.

The high desert areas will remain cooler with temperature dropping to the upper 50s. Palmdale could see 58 degrees and Palm Desert is expecting a high of 76 degrees.

Tonight's lows will drop to the mid 40s.

A red flag warning is in place through Tuesday afternoon. Peak wind gusts could reach as high as 65 mph for the coasts and valleys. The mountain and valley communities could see winds as high as 80 mph with very dry conditions.

Make sure you watch out for any downed trees or power lines.

A heads up for drivers, Caltrans closed Topanga Canyon Boulevard between Mulholland Drive to Pacific Coast Highway because of the high fire danger. The closure is expected to lift by Wednesday night.

Hazardous winds are also likely through today for the 5, 210, 405, 101, 118, and 126 freeways in L.A. and Ventura counties, according to the National Weather Service.
