Topline:

Southern California's going to get some much needed rain next week between Tuesday and Thursday. The rainfall totals, though, are forecast to be quite low, with just 1 inch expected to fall along the coast and 2 to 4 inches in the mountains.

Mudslide risk: Unlike the last storm, forecasted rainfall rates don't look like they'll be high enough to trigger debris flows in recently burned areas.

Fire season continues: This rainy season has been so dry that even this next storm won't be enough to put an end to fire risk. Santa Ana winds peak between December and February, so depending on how much moisture we get, fires will still be possible over the coming month.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
